Facebookistan
The podcast is all about the world's largest social network, Facebook. Facebook gives people an open range to interact with fellow friends/classmates/coworkers and family. The main reason Facebook was to catch up with old friends who you have no contact with over a social network. Facebook has grown into a powerful place, you can promote, sale and engage on the network. Only thing is, Facebook requires a lot of personal information to be put infront of the whole world web for everyone to see. Facebook requires a full name, your current residence and the option of contact information including email and phone number. Most people on the internet are thankful for Facebook so they can interact with their friends, but Facebook is becoming too personal for most and putting their safety in risk. Facebook is more like a robot now, it can see what you browse online even when your not logged in. Once you are a user your under Facebook control, no privacy and sometimes no credit for yourself because anyone can steal your information and use it their self. Facebookistan is basically another country with controlling observation and altering assumptions. For example, liking a brand just because you do give the brand the initiative to send you emails and request as much as they please. The podcast also interviewed a girl whose rapist added her as a friend on Facebook and asked her to contact him. I was shocked when I heard this, if it happened to me, I'd freak out completely. In her situation him and her exchanged messages and talked about the problem in the past. She wanted to know the truth and to reassure herself she wasn't delusional. He told her exactly what happened and told her not worry, she wasn't crazy it was a simple mistake. She told the podcast she felt grateful for Facebook because she finally got her answer and quit blaming herself for it. She gave him advice for his daughter and son, and realized he was a human just like her, he just made a mistake like everyone else does. She knew he was

Book:Could be secondary or primary source. In a book the information you find would be very helpful. An actual story behind the information, or research for a similar topic. A book is a great resource in a research because there is a reliable author. You could use to a book to show similar reserach another author did for a project.
Blog Post:Tertiary source. I don't feel as if a blog post is as effecient as a book. A blog post is more of one's opinion on a topic, and how they feel about it. It could be helpful if your clueless to the steps to find scholarly information. A blog post could be used in research for a example, but you wouldn't be as sure if the information was realiable.
Scholarly Journal Article: Primary source. A scholarly journal is very useful because it has professor's own research and reliable sources. It's named scholarly for a reason, it's great information to use on research project. The author of the journal worked very hard to find all the information he/she did.
Wikipedia: The source is not reliable, because one can go to the website and alter the information if they please. One could possibly think they have the right information on the topic but could be completley wrong. Wikipedia is not a good source to use on research because your paper would not be correct.
Podcast: Is information from one's audio voice or video telling about a source. The information can be useful for research. It's reliable.

The Steps I used to search the article!
First step I took, was to look at the Galileo library database!
Second step was to search the title, Gray, K. Medical students' use of Facebook to support learning: Insights from four case studies.
The last step was reading the article.

Annotated Bibliography
An annotated Bibliography
is a list of books with useful information, such as in books and articles.
There is 3 major parts to make up an annotated bibliography. First,
is the citation of your source Second, the summary gives the reader an inside
look into your notes. Third, is the actual notes that will be helpful in
your research, the annotation. The annotation is where the
information unfolds and enhances your research. The reason why you
would like us to write an annotated bibliography is to enhance our
research and to make actual time for the topic. Starting early gets you on
the right track and you will have enough time to fix your mistakes if
there is any. When preparing yourself for your research paper, the annotated bibliography comes in handy when coming up with your thesis! I like to think of the annotated bibliography like the spider webs we made back in high school. They were very helpful when coming up with ideas and points for my paper.

Plagiarism, pparaphrasing correctly, copyright, open content, open access, and creative commons all share a similarity when it comes to library research. In the Library when you are looking up source to use on research, you should know the difference between copyright and plagiarism. If you don't know the difference you could be facing a lot of trouble you didn't mean to get into. Learning how to paraphrase correctly is a must! When writing a research paper, you can not just copy someone else's work online or your professor could give you a zero for your paper, you can be expelled or even worse have a law suit filed against you. There is somewhat of a difference between open content, open access and creative commons. Open access is completely open to users online, you can use their information without having to worry about citing them or asking for permission because the information is wide open.Open content is when authors license their work and give up some control to the viewers. Creative common is used but the creators can licences their work but must ask for attribution. This knowledge comes in handy with other classes such as English when writing a paper. You wouldn't want to fail your paper because you decided to plagiarise your work.

10-17 homework
Elsevier is an academic scholarly publisher which is having issues trying to seek easier way to access scholarly journals. The librarian's that were interviewed stated that hard copy could become unreasonably pricey, but through the internet it's easier to access and also at a lower cost. Mathematic professors have started a boycott trying to grant tax payers free access to scholarly journals. The author's of the articles are wanting to grant free access to their information but are afraid of not being credited for their work. The boycott will rebel against well-known journal companies and try to alter the high subscription fees.
The New England Journal is an journal of past and present regarding medical practices. This scholarly article is known to be the most accurate for finding research and medical information. The journal has become free to tax payers after 6 months that the article is released, hoping to bring in more interested public since the article is free and reliable.

The change of knowledge of the internet age, regards how knowledge has evolved from paper, to books and now to the internet. A professor named David Weinberge located at Harvard University states that knowledge has become more broad ever since the internet was invented. The internet opens doors to anything the public would like to know. The internet will keep broadening the knowledge of the public as long as it is up and running.
The common theme between all three is the access to information from the internet and how the information brings knowledge to the public. My reactions are grateful because while I am studying as a student I will use scholarly journals for research that I am assigned. These stories are helpful because they have informed me that scholarly information is free to students while they are studying for their major. They affect me as I'm trying to succeed in college with the most accurate information their is possible on the internet.

Plagiarism & Copyright.
In my own words, I believe plagiarism is deliberately copying someone else's credit in papers, journals and books. Your taking credit for someone else's thoughts and ideas, which can lead you into a lot of trouble. If your going to use someone else's idea, you need to cite them adequately. The difference in copyright from plagiarism is, copyright is using someone's creative work such as music video's, songs, photography without authorization from the author. The similarity for both is punishment for committing both crimes. A law suit could be filed, one can be sued, a student can be expelled from school/university, also you can face court for your wrong doings. An example of plagiarism that isn't copyright would be not citing the author in your work, through copy wright you are asking the original owner for permission, not giving him credit. An example of copyright and not plagiarism is a tribute and also buying the rights but placing your name on it. To avoid being in trouble for plagiarism be smart and don't copy and past your work, your just asking for trouble that way. I have learned enough from high school that it's illegal to plagiarise other people's papers now.

How to jump into a conversation!
An example of this scenario would be two of my friends talking about my favorite artist, The Beatles. Now, whenever I hear The Beatles music or someone is talking about them I can jump into any conversation knowing exactly what Im talking about. When I jump into the conversation at first I would say "excuse me" so I wouldnt sound like im trying to intterupt. If they let me have permisson to speak then I would go off of that and speak my mind. In the change of senario, if some random person walked up to me and interupted my conversatio, they better have a good reason. I would look at them like they were dumb and rude for interupting me. If they asked politley to interupt the conversation I would give them permisson. If they had no idea what we were talking about but was trying to understand our conversation, I would give them the benefit of the doubt until they pissed me off. If anyone is going to include themself into a conversation I hope they think twice about it. If you don't know the topic then why add your nonsense? I've always disliked people who come into a conversation late and ask too many questions, that is one way to set me off.

Basic Idea of Fliter Bubbles
Filter bubbles do apply to research databases. When you search with key words the database becomes a fliter bubble for your information. It looks up specific subjects and gets down to the point where you want to know why your searching in this topic. In my reserach I look up a data base named PsychINFO, which lead me to the psychological meaning behind criminal minds. This database helped my topic make more sense, because im writing on what makes the criminal mind kill. Also, another database I researched is Criminal Justice Periodical Index, which looks more to the investigation of a serial killer. The database showed subjects for law enforcement and how they take out a criminal. It also showed results about why the serial killer did what he/she done, and their purpose behind the murder. The difference between the two databases is the topics. One database leaned toward psychological reasonings and the other leaned towards how criminal justice system took out the killer at the time. I honestly think PsychINFO helped my out the most, it pertains more to what I want to write on other than just the criminal justice system. The databases helped my research a little more and will become very helpful on tonights homework.

Reflecting on my research question.
I have enjoyed searching for my topic on how criminal minds work. I decided that my research question before was too vague. Even though I have searched on my topic, I haven't search enough. After checking out the book on criminal minds, I scammed through and jotted down some notes. I know that I need to work on searching more for my topic, and making examples of criminal minds to satisfy my audience. I know the book will help my knowledge when I decide to read more into it. After using the Galileo research database I have found more information on criminal minds. The information has scholarly sources and professional journals. I plan to research more on my topic when I get the chance but overall I am satisfied with my topic and my group members!

Filter Bubbles
Filter bubbles aren't necessarily a bad thing but they keep you from seeing the sites on the website you are most interested in. Google is using robots to pick up on your searches in your database to see exactly what you like on the internet. Well the bad thing is, is that the robots are using nonsense junk to add to your filters as well, which means hiding the real news in the world from you. Problems that occur in the filter bubbles are when searching for an important issue, google might lead you in the opposite direction that your going in. In class we were taught to use Galileo research database instead of google. I know now before the video to use Galileo for scholarly sources and never use google. I read the top way to pop your own filter bubble and yes I did take action. I was always taught by my mother to keep my privacy on the internet low so I wouldn't receive any viruses on my computer. I already knew to clear out my history, cookies and data..etc to keep my computer up to date and running at a good pace. I also downloaded the "keep my opt-outs" trying to understand how to help my filter bubble but I don't really understand how to do so. I am going to look over once again and try to get rid of my filter bubble.

Skills Obtained through Library and Research
Through out this semester the course LIBR1101 has helped me with my research tasks ever than before. I have rarley did research papers since my freshman year only in English class and I don't remember ever seeing a higher grade than a C. I have learned how to broaden my topic and see that I can elborate more effectivley on it. I'm taking English 1102 now and I have turned in my first essay, I was very impressed with my work on the rough draft. I have improved so much from my freshman year on grammer, writing, ideas, and thesis. Also, from taking this class I have learned to better my citing ability and finding the publisher, I have always had an issue with looking for the essentials in a citation. I have found it very helpful with database sites. The database sites have helped my skill of looking up resources without taking up too much time. This class has helped my group ability skills, I have never worked in groups as effectivley as now. In our group we are all working to create a research paper, which is more than just an assignment. We have to put into a paper our own ideas so we need to work together on even our english skills to make a great grade on the assignment.

September 10th Homework
My topic consists of criminal's minds and what makes the criminal act in a violent way. I want to reflect back to the brain activity or the thrill the criminal get's when they murder/ hurt someone. In order to find these books I searched the GIL-Find Beta with the topic "Criminal Minds" and found two books that fit my search. My first book, Analyzing Criminal Minds and the second Inside the Criminal Mind. Both books share a similarity, they dig down deeper into why the criminal does the foolish acts. I chose these two books in the search because they were the only one's not checked out or via-Internet copy. Plus the pictures on the label looked very interesting! The first book lead more to realistic stories pertaining to Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, also refereed to CSI crime scene show. As you can tell I don't really watch TV that much but I do know within the CSI shows and law and order the scenes are overdramatic. There is no way you can find the suspect of DNA on a crime scene within 30 minutes. Sorry, of topic but the first book wasn't helpful at all. The second book gave me information on the criminal mind from the day they were born. I read a chapter where it says criminals either never have jobs or put on a front at work to commit crime underneath the employers nose. Also, in school a criminal child rejects school at a young age, seeing the school as a play ground for crime. The child will find ways to end up in trouble at every given time they spend there. I like that my second choice of a source shows reality played in criminal minds. The GIL-Find Beta came in good work finding the book I needed!

Class Blog Post Sept 12
In Highschool when I used the library it was looking up sources for papers, so when I'd look up a book I would use a website to find a book pertaining to my topic. Which is very similar to the university's book catalogue when searching for a book. The difference between my HighSchool and the University is how broad the university's selection is I came from a small hometown so our library wasn't as useful as the Universities'. Also my high school used decimals to look up books, not a call number with letters. Which made my search even more irritating to find my book. My library ethnography helped my search ten times more, I never knew how to look up a university book before then. I havent been able to reach my sources yet that im not in the States but when I return I will be able to find my books with ease!
I found the GIL-Find is easier to use than just the regular GIL. The difference is GIL-Find makes keywords and phrase searching easier and broadens out the source. Also, you can login and mark favorites, add comments, and sign up to be emailed when updates are available. What blows the classic GIL out of the water is when your grabbing a call number the call number will be texted to your phone and its location. I must say the GIL-Find is pretty legit!

Interview Assignment
For this assignment, I chose to interview a local student who is an upper level junior about her choices in her research papers. Kristin Baldridge is a current University of West Georgia student and she is one of the two tutors for Alpha Xi Delta's study group. She currently holds the position as academic chair where she oversees and helps girls throughout the chapter with their schoolwork. She is a double major in special education and speech pathology with a minor in psychology. Her previous research papers were based on Children Psychology, How Obesity effects children in the United States, Sexuality of Children and Young adults, and even did research on Teen Pregnancy in the United States. Her sources were old school; she chose to use the library for majority of her research. She used books that had useful information and statistics to help her with writing her papers. Kristin also looked to her professor's and other educatepersonals on the campus that have also done research on the same subject and used their research to conduct her papers. Other materials she used were Newspaper articles and sometimes magazines. Her sources helped her achieve high grades on her research papers and also helped her inform others with useful information.
How will I refine my research question?
I will broaden out my research question to be able to elaborate more on my topic. Without a good research question a research paper will not be a success. My topic is over a psychopath named Edward Gein. I want to dig down deeper as to what made Edward do the things he did..What makes people turn into a serial murderers? Most psychopaths start out as normal people and sometimes charming to their surroundings. Yet underneath the front they are self-centered and dishonest. Edward Gein was abused as a child by his mother and he never had his father around. Was it a genetics that encountered Edward's monsterous actions or did his mind set turn him into a psychopath? In a study 30-38% of psychopaths show abnormal brain wave patterns. Personally, I think each psychopath has a tragic event in their live which mentally screwes up their thinking/learning ability. Edward Gein learned only from the social outside world by horrific comics, as he already had horrific events at home. The way his mother treated him he thought was normal in the outside world, which was abusing others. What was different about edward he took it father than just huting others, he killed and manslaughtered innocent people. Edward was mentally messed up in the head from how his mother treated him.

Group Research Project
My group has chosen to do our topic on a psychopath named Edward Gein. What is interesting about this man is he did unruly things to innocent people because he never knew how to act. Growing up as a child he had no father figure only his alcoholic abusive mother was around. He never left the house to socialize with other people. He was always kept at home and never met other people, including women. He has some sort of an obsession with women, that he was skin their body and wear their skin as a mask and act like a women. Back in the 1950's his house was located on a farm far away from town so no one would ever come to his house to socialize so he stayed by himself after his mother died. The only relationship he had with the outside word was gruesome comic books, so he thought it was a normal world. My major is criminology so this has everything to do with my interest. I one day want to be a private investigator and get into the criminal's minds to ask why, how, and what maybe influenced them to act the way they do.
Research Topics
http://www.mjlegal.org/essayspeech.html
One of the topics I chose is legalization of marijuana. I am not a drug abuser but I have smoked marijuana before. I think legalizing marijuana will bring down crime rate and also bring american's healthier futures. Marijuana has never been none to kill any human being, just to relax a human and bring them to peace.
http://truxter.org/2012/06/05/the-skinny-on-obesity-is-there-a-cure/
Obesity, is there a cure? Should government step in and do something for americas culture when reaching obesity? I think after a certain weight limit americans should be forced to join gyms and diets. The parents are putting their future children in risk of obesity and unhealthy life styles.
http://www.azdhs.gov/phs/immun/pdf/Why_Parents_Should_Vaccinate_Their_Children.pdf
One topic is whether or not parents should vaccinate their children for their future. We have heard so many different stories about being vaccinated and other stories from the harms of vaccinations.

Hello, my name is Erin and I am currently a Sophomore at The University of West Georgia. I am majoring in Criminology. I also am associated with greek life as an Alpha Xi Delta. Things I like to do include listening to music, dancing my heart out, hanging with friends and meeting new people. I am the type of person who can never meet a stranger, I'd say my personality is not hard to get along with. I'm striving for a 3.0 this semester to retrieve my Hope Scholarship back after a rough freshman year. So wish me luck :)
xoxo Peace & love!
